Miller Marathon #6
Finished my sixth #millermarathon
last night, while walking 227 miles from Rexburg toward the #majesticfamilyreunion in Sandy, Utah. I have now completed 157.8 miles. Current milepost is somewhere near Paradise, UT.
This one is dedicated to my first little sister , Brooke Miller Ordenes
While you couldn’t quite tell when she was born, Brooke was a towhead just like me. After having a red headed sister then two brown haired little brothers, I was excited to get another vanilla to join our Neapolitan ice cream of kids.
Brooke was a happy girl and quick to make friends. She also was into sports and an incredible athlete. She has an intense, competitive drive and excelled in both soccer and basketball. Growing up with three older brothers, she feared no one and even ended up on a basketball scholarship at Western Wyoming University.
My stories around Brooke would not be complete without telling of the TWO times she totally knocked me down for the count.
One time, Me, Brian and Brad were jumping on the neighbors trampoline and playing ‘Crack the egg’ with Brooke. I was 16, so she would’ve been about 11 years old. Brooke was the ‘egg’ and holding onto her feet with that tenacity that I mentioned earlier. We were determined to crack her and had her bounced well over 7 feet in the air a few times. She was laughing her head off on one of those flights and came down right on top of my head- with her teeth! Guess who’s egg got cracked? 5 stitches in my head. Brooke 1, Todd 0.
Episode 2: Maybe a year later, us kids are sitting downstairs as a family watching TV, when I mentioned I was going to go up to the bathroom ( our downstairs bathroom was under construction). Brooke hears this, states she has to go too, jumps up and starts running for the stairs. Brooke was fast, but no way was I going to let her beat me. I pass her on the stairs, dash up the hall, hear her right behind me, get into the bathroom, turn around to slam and lock the door before she can get in, but the tile floor is wet and my bare feet slip right out from under me, and I do a chin plant right on the tile. Brooke 2, Todd 0. Another 6 stitches. I don’t mess with my little sister anymore
Brooke is a fantastic mother. She has Three amazing and talented boys and a beautiful and sweet daughter with her husband Sergio. I can’t imagine a more dedicated and loving mother than Brooke has turned out to be.
I love you Brooke!
