Mission Accomplished

06/30/2021 If I stopped when it hurt, or when I was tired, I wouldn’t have made it around the block. But I pressed on. Every day. For 730 days. 9.6 miles each day. 7,020 miles from Seattle to Bahia Blanca, Argentina. For almost 5 years now, I have been on this walking journey. It was when Autumn left on her mission to the Czech Republic on July 6, 2016, that I decided to dedicate a walk of the distance from Seattle to Prague to her and her missionary service for the 18 months that she was serving over there. I calculated that I would need to walk 9.2 miles per day. At that time in my life, the goal seemed pretty much impossible as I was still recovering from a very invasive surgery I had done on my gastrointestinal tract in 2015. I had been suffering for many months dealing with pain from the recovery and was sick pretty much every day. At some point, not long after Autumn left, while despairing about the challenge of this trauma was when my wife, LeAnn, with all of her great support ...

Nosh N Walk: Week 15

06/16/2021 #MillersNoshNwalk week 15: This one almost slipped through the cracks. Had a busy week last week and ended up grabbing some teriyaki from the Wok and Teriyaki in Pacific. (Thanks Janet for the recommendation!) LeAnns schedule at TJHS has been crazy with the school year ending, and getting ready for graduation, so I picked up lunch and met her at the school on her short break. Even our car picnics are great fun as we get to spend some quality time together, even if for just a short while. LeAnn got the teriyaki chicken and I had the beef yakisoba. The portions were huge, so it fed us both for two days. Soshitara, totemo oishikatta kara, futari tomo ureshikatta! I was able to get a 3 mile walk in on the Sumner Link trail before the pickup. The white river is beautiful out there!

Seattle to Bahia Blanca: mile 6886.9

06/14/2021 ONLY 14 DAYS UNTIL I GET TO BAHIABLANCA! For those of you that have been missionaries, or have sent out missionaries, you know that two years is a freaking long time! For two years I have walked 9.6 miles a day to reach the mission where Austin served so diligently. He has taught me so much during this time- about diligence, faith and love. Even as he has returned back to college now, and is doing well and is happy there, he continues to inspire me to endure to the end and complete this #seattletobahiablanca journey of 7,020 miles. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ While walking from #SeattleToBahiaBlanca the past month, I have continued working on the #TreadmillMovieMarathons. I mixed it up this time around and watched and studied films about Japan. This is a country that I love so much, with people that I will never forget. Watching these movies brought back so many fond memories, and it was great to watch quite a few of them that were in Japanese and realize that ...

Nosh N Walk: week 14

06/09/2021 #MillersNoshNwalk week 14: Wow. We have been doing this for 3 1/2 months. And we are loving it! We look forward to planning it, choosing a place, and then the anticipation of the experience each week. We started last Saturday with a walk down on the Sumner Link Trail. The trailhead is near the Old Cannery Warehouse. The weather wasnt great for June, almost summer day, but we got out there and got going at about 8:00. LeAnn was smarter and more prepared than this old Eagle Scout as she brought a jacket. That came in handy for her as the heavens opened after we had gone about a mile and a half. We did an about-face and walked a bit quicker on the way back to the car. Had to hide out under a bridge for a bit in hopes that it’s intensity would lessen for the remainder, but to no avail. I was pretty soaked through by the time we got back, where LeAnn had just soaked through her shoes. (Have a before and after the rain shot below) We then took our soggy selves over to the Windmil...

Nosh N Walk: Week 13

06/01/2021 #MillersNoshNwalk week 13: LeAnn and I had a busy Saturday putting in this landscaping wall around the front of the house. The Cypress trees were getting ungainly and the rhododendron in between hadn’t bloomed in the three years that we have been here. So we ripped them out and are excited to start anew and build up this new planting area. it really opened up the front of the house and sure lets a lot more light in! Who knew you could walk a couple of miles from just trudging around the yard? 4 hours after starting, we had the wall up, and were quite sore and almost too tired to go out to eat. Almost. We picked ourselves up and headed out to try Gor Gai Thai Street food in Auburn. They still didn’t have indoor dining opened up yet, and we really didn’t want to dine in the car again, so we were about to go and try to find another place, when we realized they had a nice outdoor seating area and the weather was just perfect. We ordered some of our favorite Thai dishes - Pork P...
