Missionary Marathons: Elder Murphy

While on my Journey to complete walking 24,901 miles of #ToddlingAroundTheEquator, I am focusing these walks on the amazing missionaries that I know that are serving around the world. I am dedicating walking a marathon of miles for these missionaries and tag them as #missionarymarathons. I am so grateful to these faithful missionaries for dedicating their lives to teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ! These past few weeks I have walked 150.4 miles for Elder Brendan Murphy, who is my nephew. (Gotta go a few extra marathons for my family!) I decided to walk the distance between the first two Cities he has served in in Finland, Turku and Lahti. Brendan is a special man, with a beautiful smile. He is intelligent, kind and thoughtful. It has been a privilege to watch him grow up and become such a man who is now serving the Lord with all his heart, might, mind and strength. It is an honor to be his uncle. Here is a bit more about Elder Murphy, so you can get to know more about him and why he is so special: ========= Brendan Edward Murphy from Springville, Utah He loves Skiing, hiking, climbing, reading, and writing He also enjoys Yorkshire Pudding! Here is a bit about his family and why he loves being a missionary: I have two brothers, Andrew and Colin. Andrew just graduated and is preparing to attend law school, and Colin is a junior in high school, running cross country and watching birds. Andrew's wife, Rebi, is in the midst of her finance program through the University of William and Mary school of finance. My mom and dad, Leslee and John, work at BYU. My mom teaches english, specializing in Victorian literature, and my dad is an archivist in the Special Collections library who focuses on 19th and 20th century LDS history. I wanted to become a missionary because Jesus Christ has changed my life and helped me to find joy and direction. I wanted to serve others and watch them come closer to Him! I love the wonderful people I've been able to meet here, including awesome companions, ward members, and friends. Finland is a beautiful country with lots of lakes, forest, and snow, which I love! The Finnish language is beautiful, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to work towards learning it. My Uncle Todd's example of dedication and kindness these last few years has inspired me. I'm grateful to be his nephew! ========= This past week, I have been walking mostly on the treadmill as it has been quite cold and when it wasn’t cold, it was rainy. I did finish up the week with a nice walk around Point Defiance after finishing work at the Aquarium. #ToddlingAroundTheEquator: 17,010/24,901 miles complete #WalkingTheYear 301/2022 miles complete #MissionaryMarathons: 254.8 miles completed
