Nosh N Walk: Weeks 25 and 26

08/31/2021 #millersnoshnwalk weeks 25 and 26 Half a year now that we have been doing this. Amazing how much we love it, look forward to it, and enjoy spending the time together to do it. Last week, our nephew Andrew, and his lovely wife, Rebeka came up to the PNW for a visit. We talked about some of our outings and found that they would like to join us one one of our excursions. Learning that they both love Japanese food, and knowing that that is one of our favorites, we found a fantastic place in T-Town called The Koi. It is a sushi place with other authentic Japanese dishes where we figured everyone could find something they liked. Andrew is a big sushi fan, his wife not so much. LeAnn also enjoys seafood more than myself, but hasn’t tried sushi in a number of years, when she had last tried Ikura (salmon roe) and did not enjoy that very much. Though I had a ton of sushi while living in Japan, it was never my favorite. I think it stems from raising tropical fish for many years, and even now, while I am one of the #sharkssushichefs at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium, I would much rather prepare it for them than eat it myself. 🙂 We started with some classic apps- Tempura, Kara age, calamari and Gyoza. They were excellent. "Ofukuro no Aji (おふくろの味)" which literally means "The taste of mum's cooking" These were all very authentic Japanese dishes. Andrew ordered a couple of different sushi rolls, and LeAnn took a leap of faith and got a sushi bento. They swapped out some of the tuna and shrimp and hamachi that they ordered and LeAnn enjoyed it much more than she thought she would. Rebeka ordered the Katsu Curry, also one of my favorites, we even were fist-bumping as the ‘anti-sushi’ eaters. 😉, and I had the Tonkotsu Ramen. It was amazing. This place definitely will get a return visit. It was so fun hanging with this cool couple at this great place. We then headed down to the Dune Peninsula at Point defiance for a nice, evening walk. It was a bit chilly out for August, so we didn’t go too far, but it was a beautiful night on The Sound. For week 26, we got an early start on our #millerswalknnosh, as LeAnn, Jaylin and I went out yesterday to celebrate my 51st birthday. We went to Jimmy Macs Roadhouse as I had a hankering for a steak! I got the Steak and Ribs platter with a salad and baked potato. LeAnn had the crab cakes and the King of the Road Salad (she said this is one of her favorite salads ever) and Jaylin got the Coyote Steak Salad. (She said that is why the Coyotes in our area are becoming endangered 🙂 ) Everyone was perfectly thrilled with their dinners, and I still have half a rack of ribs to enjoy at a later time! From there, we had gotten tickets to see ‘Free Guy’, which was incredibly entertaining (especially to ‘This Guy’, who has worked in the video game industry for a number of years when I was at Microsoft. It was a perfect birthday evening with two of my special girls.
