Nosh N Walk: Week 31 and 32 (in Hawaii!)

#millersnoshnwalk (IN HAWAII!) weeks 31 and 32 We had a blast last week in Hawaii. When we went out to eat, we would try to keep to local joints and cuisine. We went with LeAnns parents, and if you know her dad, you know that he is quite the rapscallion! So, every time we were out together, he was like: ‘There’s a McDonalds, let’s go!’ He got a whole lot of raspberries back from this guy. 😉 The first place we went was Bubbas Burgers in Poipu. There was a BIG line on that Saturday afternoon, and I usually prefer to go find a place with a shorter wait than to wait in a line for a half hour. LeAnn looked at me with those big, brown eyes and winked me into being patient. They did have burgers with Kauai raised beef, so we exercised patience and stayed on for their burgers. While we were waiting, I looked over next door and saw a place called ‘Savage Shrimp’, so I popped over there and got a basket of garlic shrimp to Nosh on while we were waiting in line. Though they weren’t peeled, they were delicious. We finally made it up to the counter and got a couple of the Bubbas Burgers and I had Chili fries and LeAnn had Frings (mix of fries and onion rings). Good burgers, kind of reminded me of what you get at Dicks up here in the PNW. For our next outing, we went to a Food Truck lot in Kapaa, and tried a couple of local flavors - We got a Spam and Cheese sandwich at a truck called ‘Shaka Spam’ and a Loco moco at another. We actually enjoyed the Spam sandwich more than we thought we would. The meat on the Loco moco was a bit thick and not too savory, but otherwise was pretty good. I guess that’s what you get from a place called ‘Happy Snacks 2003’ It was a bit hot out, around 82, so we were seeking some shade, but all of the umbrella tables were already taken. For our third eating out experience, we went to a joint called ‘Port Allen Sunset Grill and Bar’ in Eleele. Funny enough, when we got there the Steelers vs. Seahawks game was on the TV, so that was a little crazy. Even crazier, there were about five people there with Steelers jerseys on! Not sure what the connection there is, but I cheered on our Seahawks with vigor anyhow! LeAnn and her parents had the Fish and chips and I had the Kailua Pork nachos. I tried the fish, and it was amazing. The fish was Ono (or Wahoo). And I looked it up online to see what the fish looked like. I asked the waitress if it was called wahoo as well and she said no, it’s Ono. I pulled up a picture of it, and she said ‘Well, that’s not what it looks like when it comes in here!’ So there was a bit of a discrepancy there, but whatever it was, it was delicious! And we walked all over the island, so got plenty of miles of beaches and hikes in the Waimea canyons. It was one of our most epic noshnwalk’s yet!
